What should a job advert with the pay in it look like?

Say in the first lines what the job is, where and when it is done and what it pays. Then list three to five must-haves, a few nice-to-haves, how to apply and when people will hear back. Since 13 July 2026 the pay has to reach every applicant before the interview, and the advert is the simplest place to put it.

The template

Job title
Plain words people would search for, and open to anyone.
Where
Town or address, and whether any of it can be done from home.
Hours
Full or part time, and the shift pattern.
Pay
A fixed amount or a range, before tax, a month or an hour. Bonuses on their own line.
Contract
Permanent or fixed term, and the start date.
What you will do
Three to five lines, in the order they fill the week.
You must have
Three to five things the job cannot be done without.
Good to have
What would make someone stand out. Keep it short.
How to apply
One link, and the closing date.
Your answer
The date by which everyone who applies hears back.

An invented advert, to show the template in use.

Job title
Warehouse worker
Where
Rae parish, near Tallinn. On site.
Hours
Full time. Two day shifts, then two night shifts.
Pay
1,500 to 1,800 ā‚¬ a month before tax, plus a night shift supplement.
Contract
Permanent, starting in October.
What you will do
Pick and pack orders with a hand scanner. Load and unload lorries with a forklift. Keep your aisle tidy and safe.
You must have
A forklift operator certificate. Estonian at working level. Able to work nights.
Good to have
Experience with a warehouse management system. Russian or English.

Why these parts

  • Pay near the top. It answers the first question every candidate has, and it meets the pay rule without a separate email. The pay rule ā†’
  • Three to five must-haves. Every extra must-have shrinks the pile for a reason that may not matter.
  • A date for an answer. It tells people what to expect, and it commits you to answering everyone.
  • A title anyone can apply to. Salesperson, not salesman. The EU pay transparency directive asks for gender neutral job titles.
